PILOT MOUNTAIN — Velocity Sports Performance (VSP) has announced that it will be hosting a weekend speed and agility camp on July 30 and 31 at the Edward Armfield Civic and Recreation Center. The Pilot Mountain Youth Soccer Association (PMYSA) will serve as area sponsor for the camp.

According to VSP Community Relations and Marketing representative Nate Jahnes, the Greensboro-based company is an athletic training facility that works on improving the speed, agility and power of athletes, ages 8 to adult.

The camp is open to athletes of all sports, from ages 8 to 17. The cost of the camp will be $60 per participant. Camp times will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on July 30 and from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 31. According to Jahnes, instruction will feature an introduction to the basics in speed and agility taught by VSP’s degree-certified coaches.

“This can be of benefit to anyone,” Jahnes said, “including all age groups and talent levels. The benefits and techniques of speed and agility are universal and aren’t specific to one sport. This will help to avoid bad habits and to improve technique, especially in how to run and to land. That can also help athletes to avoid injury.”

Sign-up for the camp will take place during the PMYSA fall soccer sign-ups this Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at the Armfield Center or by calling (336) 605-2828.

VSP’s year-round facility is off Interstate 40 in Greensboro. According to Jahnes, the company has worked with a number of professional and collegiate athletes as well as thousands of high school, middle school and elementary school athletes.
