PINNACLE — Two bicyclists were struck by a Jeep traveling along Trinity Church Road in Stokes County early last Friday morning, forcing the bicycles to leave the road and overturn and causing one fatality.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol report filed by investigating Trooper Jonathan Phillips, bicyclist Donald Sunday, 62, of Winston-Salem, was killed in the accident. A second cyclist, Barry Leonard, 49, of King, also was struck and suffered injuries.

According to published reports, Leonard was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center with a broken pelvis and was released on Sunday evening.

According to Phillips, both bicycles and the Jeep were traveling southwest on Trinity Church Road when the vehicle struck the bicycles from the rear. The Jeep was being driven by Linda Sink of King. No charges have been filed, but an investigation is ongoing.
